We recently had a week at the Avenida Hotel. This is the second time we've stayed there and we enjoyed it very much. The location is really good. Its situated on Calle Gambo in the Old Town, right in the heart of the shopping area. Its only a few minutes walk from the beach, and just a short stroll to the main entertainment areas of the New Town too. This hotel is probably more suited to people in the 30 plus age range i would say. The entertainment is very low key, consisting of a singer/keyboard player in the bar area each evening. The bar area itself is very nice and quiet and has smoking and non smoking areas. Its a nice place in which to relax with a drink before or after the evening meal. The restaurant does'nt open until 8 each evening, and theres usually a small queue that developes shortly before opening. The dinning room is a little on the small side, and it can get a touch busy at times. This is because the people who stay in the Avenida Apartments, across the street, can also book a meals package at the Hotel, so it does get rather busy. The food on the whole is pretty decent. The usual things are to be found at Breakfast, and the evening meals are fairly varied really, apart from the fact that they serve Chips at every mealtime, and only once did we have any other variety of potato, (Roast) during the week we were there. I found this a bit surprising really, because the hotel is frequented by many Spanish people, and is certainly not a British dominated hotel. Also there was no paella served all week, which was a shame, because i quite like that. There were other British Holidaymakers there at the same time as us, but in the main, the guests were made up more of Spanish and Dutch people when we were there. The rooms are quite nice too, but perhaps a little dated now. A shower room which we were allocated on our last day, was refurbished in a more modern style than the room we had during the week, but this room did'nt have a balcony, and overlooked an internal courtyard, so if you prefer a room with a balcony, it would be adviseable to state this when you book. The airconditioning was'nt the best we've come across, but was adequate. The airconditioning in the public areas, is better than that in the bedrooms. The staff are very polite and friendly and everywhere is kept lovely and clean. There is a small rooftop pool and terrace with a jacuzzi. Its only a small area and can get busy. The pool is heated in the cooler months. Its not a hotel that is really suitable for children, and there are no specific activities or entertainment geared for them. Overall, its a very nice, quiet hotel suited to couples and more mature visitors, and not young families. We liked it, and would stay there again.

Hi Taggy
Nice concise report. I stayed at the Avenida about 10 years ago and found it much as you describe. At that time the food was excellent.
Must have just missed you. I have just retuned to the UK after 3 weeks.

Cheers Denny...we were there from 2nd - 9th July and had a really good time. We are coming out again, just for 5 nights on 2nd Sept, this time at The Regente, and hoping to squeeze a few days in around November. Things certainly seem a good bit quieter around the Caberet Bars at the moment dont they! Hope all is ok with you. Take Care.
